San Diego’s Hotel Workers Endorse Georgette Gomez For City Council
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
City Heights -- The Georgette Gomez for City Council campaign announced today the endorsement of UNITE HERE Local 30, San Diego’s hotel workers union. UNITE HERE represents 4,500 hotel, gaming, and food service workers throughout San Diego County.
Brigette Browning, President of UNITE HERE Local 30 said, "Georgette Gomez has dedicated her life to fighting for low income workers and immigrant families. Whether its taking on industrial polluters, standing up to downtown developers, or fighting for our neighborhoods’ fair share, Georgette Gomez has proven time and again that she is a true champion for working people and has what it takes to make City Hall work for the people again."
One of San Diego’s most politically active unions, UNITE HERE is well known for providing strong support for its endorsed candidates. The hotel workers’ endorsement comes on the heels of additional labor support for Gomez, who just last week earned the endorsement of the San Diego Building and Construction Trades Council.
Georgette Gomez is also endorsed by League of Conservation Voters, Former Councilmember Donna Frye, retired Councilman John Hartley, Former State Senator Steve Peace and San Diego Democrats for Equality.
Georgette Gomez is a candidate for San Diego City Council District 9. Georgette is a member of the City Heights Area Planning Committee and associate director of the Environmental Health Coalition’s Toxic-Free Neighborhoods Campaign. Georgette and her partner, Xochitl, live in the Azalea Park neighborhood of City Heights.
