Chris Ward Endorses Georgette Gómez for City Council
Democratic Support For Gómez Continues To Grow
CITY HEIGHTS – Councilmember-Elect Chris Ward has endorsed Georgette Gómez for San Diego City Council in District 9, the Gómez campaign announced today.
Councilmember-Elect Chris Ward said: "Georgette Gómez has spent her career as a nonprofit executive and elected member of her planning group fighting to improve our neighborhood services, protect our environment, and make sure every San Diegan gets a fair deal. As the next Councilmember for the 3rd District, it is important to me to have an ally who will bring her fresh perspective and tireless passion to help us solve our shared challenges. I know that Georgette will be focused on community first, build on her work to date, and help those most in need as a fellow member on the City Council. With the support of 9th District voters, I look forward to working with her to move our city forward in the years to come."
Chris Ward is the Democratic Councilmember-Elect from Council District 3, the district that neighbors District 9. Ward is one of San Diego’s most talked about young leaders, winning his election to the Council in a landslide.
Georgette Gómez responded: “I am honored to have Chris Ward’s support. It’s time for new leadership and change at City Hall to end the inside deals for downtown special interests and put the focus back on serving our neighborhoods. On the Council, I’ll fight for our neighborhoods' fair share of city funding and work to make San Diego the greenest city in America with clean air, clean water and clean energy jobs."
The support for the Gómez campaign continues to mount. Earlier this week, the Gómez campaign announced the endorsement of Nathan Fletcher, author of Chealsea’s Law. Georgette Gómez is also backed by Councilmen David Alvarez and Todd Gloria, Speaker Emeritus Toni Atkins, Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, the San Diego County Democratic Party, Sierra Club and many other Democratic groups and leaders.
Georgette Gómez has served District 9 communities as a Nonprofit Executive, Environmental Advocate and as an elected member of her Neighborhood Planning Group. A native San Diegan, Georgette attended local public schools and graduated from SDSU. Georgette earned the 2013 Voice of the Year Award from the Voice of San Diego and the 2013 Sierra Club FEAT Award for her work advocating for working families and underserved communities. A native San Diegan, and the daughter of immigrants, she has fought to ensure that all working families have the opportunity to thrive. She and her partner, Xochitl live in the City Heights community of Azalea Park.
