Assemblywoman Toni Atkins Endorses Georgette Gomez for City Council
Atkins praised Gómez’s courage, leadership, and dedication to the community.
“Georgette Gómez is a leader who has spent her career standing up to powerful special interests. She has fought to protect our children from toxic chemicals and our neighborhoods from polluters. Georgette cares deeply about her community, and has proven her courage and commitment through public service. She will bring a fresh perspective to City Hall and will fight to strengthen our neighborhoods and support San Diego’s working families,” Atkins said.
"As Speaker of the Assembly, as a Councilmember and as Interim Mayor, Toni Atkins has been a tireless champion for San Diego,” Gomez replied. “I am thrilled and honored to have her support. I am committed to bringing change to City Hall to stop the downtown giveaways and special deals shortchanging our communities. It’s time to get our priorities straight and make City Hall work for the people again.”
Atkins’ support comes on the heels of the endorsements of the Sierra Club, the League of Conservation Voters, former State Senator Christine Kehoe, former Councilmember Donna Frye, Councilmember David Alvarez, and over 100 local community leaders.
Georgette Gómez has served District 9 communities for over twelve years, both in her career as an environmental advocate, and through her service on the City Heights planning committee. A native San Diegan, and the daughter of immigrant parents, she has fought to ensure that all working families have the opportunity to thrive. She and her partner, Xochitl live in the City Heights community of Azalea Park.
